The Oral Health Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA) was created to promote important oral health issues within APHA. The section is dedicated to the same priority issues as is APHA as a whole: improving access to care, eliminating health disparities, and rebuilding the public health infrastructure.
The section has sponsored numerous resolutions that support dental public health policies, programs, and practices. The section works to promote community water fluoridation; effective interventions for reducing racial and ethnic health disparities; evidence-based oral health care; reducing oral health complications for individuals with diabetes; domestic violence screening, identification, and referral by oral health professionals; wearing mouthguards to prevent oro-facial injury; dental sealant application; preventing the transmission of bloodborne pathogens; and other issues.
