This report summarizes efforts to increase access to oral health care for a target population of children in the Little Rock, Arkansas, school district with funding from the State Oral Health Collaborative Systems grant for the period 2004–2007. The report contains information on the purpose, goals and objectives, methods, evaluation, work plan, and regional and national significance of the Future Smiles project. Selected topics include establishing a dental clinic, developing a steering committee, providing comprehensive preventive (screenings and dental sealants) and restorative oral health services in the school-based setting, and providing education for children and their parents on the importance of optimal oral health.
