This final report describes a project to screen a racially and ethnically diverse group of children from families with low incomes attending California health fairs and to provide dental sealants to the children who need them. The report discusses the purpose of the project, goals and objectives, methodology, evaluation, results and outcomes, publications and products, dissemination and utilization of results, future plans and follow-up, and type and amount of support and resources needed to replicate the project. This event guide is designed for preschool children and their families to introduce good nutrition and oral health habits. The material incorporates the basic concepts of the food guide pyramid and the 5-a-day message to increase fruit and vegetable consumption, encourages physical activity and reading readiness, and a variety of oral health activities. The guide is organized into the following sections: event planning, execution, and follow up; timetable and checklist; marketing and maximizing local resources; setting up your Brushing Buddies event including the physical surroundings, what to do as the children arrive, the story, and Brushing Buddies activity centers. The appendix includes information on resource addresses, oral health resources for families, a Brushing Buddies shopping list, and master copies of Brushing Buddies materials for photocopying.
