This manual is designed for staff members who provide nutrition education and counseling for parents and guardians of full-term, at-risk infants who participate in the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) or the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). It includes basic information on the nutritional needs of infants, the development of feeding skills, breastfeeding, formula feeding, the introduction of solid foods, infant feeding practices, food selection, sanitary food preparation and storage, oral health, vegetarian nutrition, and some common gastrointestinal problems. Teaching aids include a summary of key points, several appendices, and a bibliography.
